China’s Tea Industry: Net Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Mitigation Potential
نویسندگان
چکیده
Tea is an important cash crop and a beverage that widely consumed across the world. In China (the largest producer of tea), industry growing, there need to understand current greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions sequestrations potential for mitigation so climate action can be strategically undertaken. Life cycle assessment carbon footprint methods were used quantify in tea cultivation processing 16 major producing regions year 2017. The system boundary was from cradle factory gate, which divided into three subsystems, namely agricultural materials production, production processing. Several units analysis chosen: region (province), area (ha) product (kg loose etc. Total GHG 28.75 Mt CO2eq, mainly attributable energy use (41%), fertilizer (31.6%) soil (26.7%). This equated 12.0 t CO2eq per ha 10.8 kg processed tea. Production Hubei, Yunan, Guizhou, Sichuan Fujian provinces contributed almost two thirds emissions, representing priority areas strategic reduce emissions. At same time, total sink amounted 21.37 MtCO2, 74.3% proportions stored soil, biomass, 49.3%, 30.0%, 20.7%, respectively. If best recommended management practices application adopted biomass as source processing, reduction 16.66 or 58% associated with appeared high by comparison other However, considering potential, should viewed sector action. Moreover, substantial through adoption improved seems very realistic. There may also additional opportunities development organic systems.

Towards Standardization of Life-Cycle Metrics for Biofuels: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Mitigation and Net Energy Yield
Despite a rapid worldwide expansion of the biofuel industry, there is a lack of consensus within the scientific community about the potential of biofuels to reduce reliance on petroleum and decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Although life cycle assessment provides a means to quantify these potential benefits and environmental impacts, existing methods limit direct comparison within and be...

متن کاملMitigation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Animal Agriculture
Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center Animal agriculture contributes about three percent of all anthropogenic (humancaused) greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. (EPA, 2011). Although this is small relative to other economic sectors such as transportation and energy, animal agriculture is also being called upon to defend its environmental impact and continually demonstrate its comm...
متن کاملDeveloping breeding schemes to assist mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
Genetic improvement of livestock is a particularly effective technology, producing permanent and cumulative changes in performance. This paper highlights some of the options for including mitigation in livestock breeding schemes, focusing on ruminant species, and details three routes through which genetic improvement can help to reduce emissions per kg product via: (i) improving productivity an...
متن کاملGreenhouse Gas Emissions and the Potential for Mitigation from Materials Management within Oecd Countries
An order-of magnitude estimate of life-cycle GHG reductions across potential municipal solid waste management scenarios shows that achievable reductions are on the order of current annual emissions from the conventional waste sector quantified in OECD countries’ GHG inventories. In other words, in most countries, at least 4 percent of current annual GHG emissions could be mitigated if waste m...
